A workplace shooting on July 8, 2003, at the Lockheed Martin plant in Meridian, Mississippi, claimed the life of 46-year-old Samuel Edward “Sam” Cockrell Jr. and five of his colleagues. The tragic event unfolded when a fellow employee, Doug Williams, opened fire on his co-workers before taking his own life. In addition to Cockrell, the victims of the shooting were DeLois Bailey, Micky Fitzgerald, Lynette McCall, Thomas Willis, and Rev. Charles J. Miller.
