In the vast and rugged landscape of Northern Ontario, the story of Chester Sawyers' disappearance began on June 8, 1990. At the age of 66, Chester was last seen near a camp in Lochalsh, located within Riggs Township. On that day, reports indicate that he was upset and had expressed his intention to head home. It is believed that he departed from the camp on foot, venturing into the wilderness that surrounds the area. He was a Caucasian male, born on July 14, 1923. At the time he went missing, he was described as having a heavy build, standing approximately 5'10' to 5'11' tall and weighing around 180 to 182 pounds.

Chester's physical description included several distinct features. He had grey hair styled in a brush cut, blue eyes, and wore glasses. Notably, he had a glass left eye and walked with a slight limp. He also had removable upper dentures. When he was last seen, he was wearing a grey t-shirt, black dress pants, and brown dress shoes. He was carrying personal items that included a Mastercard, a Canadian Tire card, and his driver's license, possibly all within a wallet. These belongings, meant for a life connected to society, vanished with him into the remote Ontario terrain.

The circumstances surrounding Chester Sawyers' disappearance remain shrouded in uncertainty. The initial report suggested he left in a distressed state of mind, which has left his family and investigators with decades of unanswered questions. The Ontario Provincial Police-Superior East Detachment has been the agency of record for this long-unresolved case. The overview of this case is one of a sudden and perplexing vanishing. A man, upset and intending to go home, steps into the Canadian wilderness and is never definitively seen or heard from again, leaving a void of information and a family without closure.
