James J. "Skillz" Ricks, a 29-year-old resident of Canton, Mississippi, tragically lost his life on January 21, 2014. The incident occurred at a residence on Canal Street in Canton, where Ricks was involved in a heated argument over a computer with Fredrick Tyrone Smith, Jr., a 17-year-old at the time. The confrontation escalated quickly, leading Smith to pull out a small caliber handgun and shoot Ricks once in the torso. Ricks succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
