In the early hours of October 6, 2021, the life of 17-year-old Jaihlen Sims was tragically cut short in his Canton, Mississippi home. Sims, a male, was holding his two-month-old infant son when shots were fired into his residence on North Canal Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. In a heroic act to shield his child from the gunfire, Sims was struck in the head. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
