In the early hours of a Saturday morning in Canton, Mississippi, a familiar gathering spot on Hickory Street turned into a scene of violence and tragedy. On June 22, 2024, a dispute escalated, leading to gunfire that would ultimately claim the life of 20-year-old Jontravious Warren. The shooting, which erupted around 12:45 a.m., also resulted in injuries to five other individuals, sending shockwaves through the local community. Warren was rushed to Merit Health, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led Canton police to a suspect. Shortly after the incident, authorities arrested 19-year-old Jeremy O'Neal. He was subsequently charged with one count of murder for the death of Jontravious Warren and six counts of aggravated assault in connection with the other individuals who were injured during the altercation. The motive for the shooting appears to have been a fight that broke out at the well-known hangout spot.
