On an autumn day in Aberdeen, Mississippi, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, claiming the life of 59-year-old Robert Alan Mize. The fatal encounter occurred on October 3, 2014, at Mize's residence. The conflict began when Mize's son-in-law, Mickey Sudduth, arrived at the home to pick up his children for the weekend.
An argument erupted between Sudduth and his estranged wife, Jennifer Mize Sudduth, who was Robert Mize's daughter. Jennifer alleged that her husband had attempted to choke her and ran inside to alert her father. In response, Robert Mize armed himself with a Glock. 40 pistol and went to confront Sudduth, who was also armed. The confrontation quickly turned violent, erupting into a gunfight between the two men.
Both Robert Mize and Mickey Sudduth were shot multiple times and died at the scene. Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell reported that each man had sustained at least six gunshot wounds. The exchange of gunfire also resulted in injuries to Mize's wife, Janice Mize, and his daughter, Jennifer Sudduth. The two children who were present at the home were unharmed. Due to the deaths of both individuals involved in the shootout, authorities did not file any charges. The incident was classified as a case of domestic violence.
