On that day, 33-year-old Eric King Wilson, a Black / African American male and a respected officer with the Aberdeen Police Department, was found shot to death. His body was discovered inside his unmarked police car, a vehicle he often used for drug-related cases. The car was parked in a seemingly safe location, in front of his aunt's house and near the residence of the Chief of Police.
The scene of the crime suggested a chilling familiarity between Officer Wilson and his killer. His service weapon remained holstered at his side, and his hands were resting peacefully, indicating he likely did not perceive a threat from the individual who ended his life. This detail has led investigators to believe that he knew his assailant. Officer Wilson, a U.S. Air Force veteran, was engaged to be married at the time of his death. He had moved back to Monroe County, where his parents were raised, because it felt like home to him.
Despite the passage of decades, the murder of Officer Eric King Wilson remains an unsolved case that continues to haunt the Aberdeen community.
