In the early morning hours of September 6, 2025, the life of Anfernee Shuqur Orr, a 28-year-old Black/African American male from Okolona, Mississippi, was tragically cut short in Aberdeen. Just after 2:00 a.m., Orr was discovered shot inside a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Evergreen Drive. Paramedics were called to the scene, but his gunshot wound proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 2:33 a.m. Investigators determined that Orr had been at Henry's Sports Bar just minutes before the shooting, leaving around 1:50 a.m. His body was subsequently sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy as the Aberdeen Police Department launched a homicide investigation.
The investigation into Orr's death is being treated as both a homicide and a robbery. While the search for the person or persons who shot Orr continues, law enforcement has made one arrest in connection with the case. On October 3, 2025, authorities announced that 32-year-old Charterious L. Moore of West Point had been arrested and charged with felony tampering with evidence. At the time of this new charge, Moore was already facing a prior charge for trafficking a controlled substance in Monroe County, which resulted in his bond being revoked. He is currently being held at the Monroe County Detention Center.
Law enforcement officials from both the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Aberdeen Police Department have publicly appealed for assistance in solving the case. They are urging anyone with information about the events leading up to the shooting to come forward, hoping to piece together the final moments of Anfernee Orr's life. Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook described the assailant or assailants as 'cowards,' stating his belief that Orr did not have a chance to defend himself and was likely unaware of the impending attack. As the investigation presses on, the community awaits answers and justice for the man whose life ended abruptly in a quiet driveway.
