In the quiet community of Aberdeen, Mississippi, a domestic dispute on October 3, 2014, escalated into a tragic and fatal encounter. Michael 'Mickey' Sudduth, a 46-year-old male, was fatally wounded during a gunfight. The altercation also resulted in the death of his 59-year-old father-in-law, Robert Mize.
The incident unfolded when Sudduth went to his in-laws' residence on Coontail Road to pick up his children for a scheduled visit. An argument between Sudduth and his estranged wife, Jennifer Sudduth, reportedly turned physical, with allegations that he choked her. Jennifer Sudduth then informed her father, Robert Mize, of the altercation.
Mize emerged from the house armed with a pistol, and a gunfight ensued between him and Sudduth, who was also armed. Both men sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. The Monroe County Coroner, Alan Gurley, estimated that each man had been shot at least six times.
During the exchange of gunfire, Jennifer Sudduth and her mother, Janice Mize, were also wounded. Their injuries were not life-threatening, and they were treated at a local hospital. The children, who were present at the time of the incident, were unharmed. Due to the circumstances of the event, with both shooters being deceased, the Monroe County Sheriff, Cecil Cantrell, stated that no charges would be filed in the case.
