In the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans, a devastating act of violence cut short the life of 17-year-old Eric C. Simmons III. The teenager, a male, was on his way home from school, still in his uniform and with his backpack on, when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred when several unidentified men approached him and opened fire. He was later found with gunshot wounds in the 8600 block of Palmetto Street and was pronounced dead at the scene.
