In the early days of 2017, the life of Omario Meesha Caldwell, a 41-year-old Black transgender woman, was tragically cut short in Canton, Mississippi. Known to her friends and community as Mesha, she was a talented and popular hair and makeup artist, remembered for her vibrant personality and kindness.

On January 4, 2017, Caldwell's body was discovered on Heindl Road near Old Yazoo City Road. An investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Office determined that she had been shot to deat ...
