Omario Meesha Caldwell, a 41-year-old transgender woman known as Mesha Caldwell, was tragically found dead on January 4, 2017, in Canton, Mississippi. Her body was discovered on Heindl Road near Old Yazoo City Road, and the Madison County coroner confirmed her death as a homicide. Caldwell, a well-known beautician and makeup artist in her community, was shot to death, marking the first reported murder of a transgender person in the United States for that year.
