In the early hours of February 26, 2018, the life of Demetress Kelly, a 34-year-old Black/African American woman from Jackson, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. Just before 2:30 a.m., on Alabama Street near Virginia Avenue, the sound of gunshots echoed in the night. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Ms. Kelly's body lying in the roadway. She had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
