In the late afternoon of a September day in Columbus, Mississippi, the life of Walter James Kyles, a 56-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On Saturday, September 29, 2018, Kyles was discovered behind an apartment complex at the intersection of 11th Street and 11th Avenue South, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
