In the winter of 2020, the life of 15-year-old Shamar Demand Griffin, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. On the evening of December 22nd, Griffin was a passenger in a vehicle when it was targeted in a drive-by shooting. The incident unfolded in the 5500 block of North State Street, where assailants in another vehicle opened fire.
Following the shooting, the vehicle Griffin was in traveled to the parking lot of an IHOP restaurant on Briarwood Drive.
It was there that he was found, having succumbed to the gunshot wounds he sustained. The Hinds County Coroner later confirmed his identity and the cause of his death.
The Jackson Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Authorities have stated they are searching for two unidentified suspects who were seen in a small white car at the time of the shooting. Investigators have obtained footage of the suspects' vehicle, which appears to show at least two shooters inside. Despite these leads, no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder of Shamar Demand Griffin, and the suspects remain at large. His family and the community continue to await justice in a case that remains unsolved.
