On the final day of 2020, what should have been a time of hopeful anticipation for the new year turned into a tragedy for the family of Javantavous “J” Davison. The 22-year-old male from Moss Point, Mississippi, was fatally shot on December 31, 2020. Davison, who was born on July 30, 1998, was inside a vehicle in his hometown when the incident occurred, cutting short a life filled with promise and aspirations for the coming year. Another passenger in the vehicle was also injured during the assault.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officials began their investigation, and a suspect was soon identified. An arrest warrant was issued in January 2021 for Nathan Ramon DuBose Jr. on charges of First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault. DuBose, who was 21 years old at the time, became the subject of a manhunt involving the Moss Point Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Known by the aliases “Lil Nate” or “Kreole Nate,” his fugitive status led to his placement on Mississippi's Most Wanted list in April 2021. He was considered armed and dangerous by authorities.

After months on the run, the search for DuBose came to an end. In May 2021, he was located and apprehended in Panama City, Florida. Following his capture, DuBose was extradited back to Mississippi to face the charges brought against him in connection with the death of Javantavous Davison.
