In the spring of 2021, the life of 19-year-old Tania Samone Harris was tragically cut short in Greenwood, Mississippi. On the night of Thursday, May 20th, Harris, an Itta Bena woman, was shot outside the Confederate Memorial Building. She was rushed to the Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Friday, May 21, 2021. The incident was not a targeted attack on Harris; investigators later determined that she was not the intended victim of the shooting.
