On September 9, 2023, in Greenwood, Mississippi, 30-year-old entrepreneur Torrance Payton was fatally shot alongside 29-year-old school resource officer Tyissha Pritchett.

Authorities identified a suspect in the double homicide, who was arrested on September 12, 2023. Tragically, the suspect committed suicide while in custody.

Funeral services for Mr. Payton were held at Leflore Legacy Academy, with visitation at Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
