In the summer of 2021, the life of 19-year-old Bill Hunt Calvin Jr. was tragically cut short in Natchez, Mississippi. A Black male, Calvin was last seen near Morgantown Middle School around noon on July 21, 2021. For months, his whereabouts remained a mystery, leaving his family and the community in anguish. The search for the young man, who was known as a fun-loving person who enjoyed music, video games, social media, and his family, came to a devastating end on October 26, 2021, when his
remains were discovered on Booker Road in Natchez. An autopsy later confirmed that he had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation into his death led authorities to a 15-year-old suspect, Tayshon Holmes. Evidence gathered from the scene, along with GPS information from the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office, pointed to Holmes's involvement. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder as an adult. Holmes was detained at the Adams County Jail with an initial bond set at $500,000. This bond was later reduced to $100,000, allowing for his release.
The case took another turn in September 2022, when Holmes, while out on bond, was arrested again for the aggravated assault of his stepfather. In a further startling development, in June 2023, Holmes and two other teenagers escaped from the Henley-Young-Patten Juvenile Justice Center in Hinds County. Following his recapture, Holmes ultimately pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the killing of Bill Hunt Calvin Jr. He also entered a guilty plea for a carjacking that occurred after his escape from the juvenile facility.
