In the late morning hours of a Thursday in Natchez, Mississippi, a dispute over something as small as a cigarette spiraled into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 28-year-old Kendrick Tolbert. On January 2, 2014, on Beaumont Street, what began as a verbal disagreement between Tolbert and another man escalated into a physical altercation inside a house.
