On an August evening in 2021, the life of 5-year-old Zy'Kerioun Brown was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire. The young male was inside his family's home on Old Marion Drive in Meridian, Mississippi, on August 7th when a drive-by shooting occurred. Though he was not the intended target, Zy'Kerioun was struck and killed, a devastating loss that deeply affected his family and the wider community.

The investigation into the senseless act of violence led to the arrests of four individuals. In September 2022, the Meridian Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, took four suspects into custody. Daniel Reed, Brandon Reed, Lakendra Campbell, and Domanetrus Camper were all charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of the young boy. The bond for both Daniel and Brandon Reed was set at a significant $1 million, reflecting the gravity of the charges they faced.

As of late 2023, public records indicated that Domanetrus Camper was incarcerated at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility, facing charges of murder and shooting into a dwelling. However, detailed information regarding the trials, convictions, or sentences for any of the four suspects has not been made publicly available. The specific motive behind the shooting that claimed the life of an innocent child also remains undisclosed. The community continues to await further developments in the legal proceedings, hoping for justice for Zy'Kerioun Brown.
