In the summer of 2016, the community of Meridian, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent and untimely death of a local football hero. Chris Smith, a 26-year-old Black man, was fatally shot on the night of Friday, July 15, 2016. The incident occurred at the Frank Berry Courts apartments on 42nd Avenue, where an altercation escalated to a fatal conclusion.
