In the early hours of August 12, 2024, in Meridian, Mississippi, the life of 32-year-old Marquel Devon Holcombe was tragically cut short. Shortly before 2 a.m., Holcombe was shot near the intersection of Paulding Street and 40th Avenue. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but succumbed to his injuries and died. Holcombe's death continued as law enforcement worked to identify those responsible. On September 16, 2024, a breakthrough in the case was announced by the Meridian Police Department. Investigators had identified a suspect, and Tyler Matthews was subsequently arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Marquel Holcombe. Following the arrest, Matthews' bond was set at $1 million.
