In the late summer of 2021, the city of Jackson, Mississippi, was troubled by a series of violent acts. Among the victims was a young Black / African American man named Demarco Gaines. At 23 years old, his life was cut short in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 14, 2021. Gaines was discovered at 210 Parcel Drive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. His death was officially classified as a homicide, marking the 91st such case in Jackson for that year.
