Death by Force

On January 31, 2023, 22-year-old Ashley Benitez was fatally shot in her downtown Las Vegas apartment. Her boyfriend, 23-year-old Jesus Navarrette, was arrested at the scene and charged with open murder. Navarrette claimed that during an argument, his AR-15 rifle accidentally discharged, striking Benitez in the neck. However, the Clark County coroner ruled her death a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound to the neck.
