In the early morning hours of October 11, 2021, Mel Groves, a 25-year-old Black transgender man, was shot multiple times in Jackson, Mississippi. Despite his severe injuries, he managed to drive himself to a local hospital. Upon arrival, he collapsed as he exited his vehicle. Medical personnel rushed him into emergency surgery, but tragically, he succumbed to his wounds on the operating table.
