In a tragic incident that unfolded in Laurel, Mississippi, 52-year-old Mark Keyes lost his life on September 20, 2021. The violence that ended his life took place within the confines of his own family’s mobile home on Magnolia Road, creating a harrowing scene for those nearby.

Keyes was found to have been shot multiple times with a. 22-caliber rifle. The shooting occurred in the kitchen of the residence. In a particularly distressing detail, three young children, with ages of 7, 3, and a 9-month-old infant, were present in another room of the home at the time of the fatal event.

The individual identified as the suspect in the shooting was Keyes' own son, 22-year-old Bryson Turner. Following the incident, Turner reportedly barricaded himself inside the mobile home. A standoff with the Jones County Sheriff's Department ensued, but authorities were able to negotiate his peaceful surrender.

After being taken into custody, Bryson Turner was charged with first-degree murder in connection with his father's death. He admitted to authorities that he was the one who pulled the trigger. Despite his admission, a clear motive for the shooting was not immediately apparent, as there were no initial reports of a heated argument between the father and son prior to the deadly confrontation. Turner later had his initial court appearance where his bond was set at $75,000.
