In the fall of 2021, a dispute in Jackson, Mississippi, tragically escalated, leading to the death of 28-year-old Miesha Robinson. The incident, which unfolded on October 24, 2021, began with an argument at a local restaurant and ended in a burst of gunfire that would ultimately claim Robinson's life and injure another.

The conflict originated at the Lacazela Mexican Restaurant on Fortification Street, where Robinson was involved in a disagreement with a woman named Zazmone Evans and her boyfriend, Carlos Vanrell. Following the initial confrontation, the altercation continued outside. As Robinson and another woman, Cierra Rhymes, were in a vehicle, shots were fired into the car. Robinson was struck in the stomach, and Rhymes sustained a gunshot wound to her back.

Both women were rushed to St. Dominic Hospital for medical attention. While Rhymes survived her injuries, Robinson was listed in critical condition. For eleven days, she fought for her life, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries on November 4, 2021. Her death marked the 126th homicide in Jackson that year.

In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement identified Carlos Vanrell as the suspected shooter. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was apprehended in Arkansas before being extradited back to Mississippi to face charges. Initially charged with aggravated assault, the charges against Vanrell were upgraded to murder following Robinson's death. He was also denied bond during a court appearance.
