In the late hours of a December night in Hermanville, Mississippi, a burst of violence shattered the community's peace. On December 30th, deputies from the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a residence on Highway 18 after reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival at approximately 11:47 p.m., they discovered a male victim who had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The man, identified as 43-year-old Morques Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led law enforcement to a suspect, 84-year-old Carl Lee Wells. Wells was located at his own residence where he was taken into custody by the authorities. Following his arrest, he was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Johnson's death. Wells is currently being held without bond as the case has been bound over to the Grand Jury for further legal proceedings.
