In a tragic turn of events, 20-year-old Brianna Carter from Jackson, Mississippi, lost her life in January 2022. At eight months pregnant, Carter was the victim of a fatal shooting. Despite her critical injuries, she was able to identify her alleged attacker to investigators before she succumbed to her wounds. Her unborn child also did not survive the incident.
The shooting, which authorities have described as domestic in nature, took place near Bishop Avenue. Following the incident, Carter was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, both she and her unborn baby died there from the multiple gunshot wounds she sustained. The information she provided to the police before her death proved to be a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation that followed.
Based on Carter's dying declaration, law enforcement identified 21-year-old Daniel Jones as the primary suspect. A manhunt for Jones ensued, and he was apprehended by Jackson police at a downtown bus station just days after the fatal shooting. He was taken into custody and has reportedly been uncooperative with the authorities since his arrest.
Initially, authorities were considering charges of domestic aggravated assault against Jones. However, with the subsequent deaths of both Brianna Carter and her unborn child, the charges were expected to be upgraded to murder. Jones was jailed without bond following his arrest.
