In the spring of 2022, a journey home for Carol Geneva Butler, a 40-year-old woman, ended tragically in Jackson, Mississippi. On May 7, 2022, Butler was killed by gun violence in the city, a place she was passing through while en route from Seattle, Washington, to her intended destination of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Her death was part of a notably violent weekend in Jackson, which prompted public statements from city officials expressing their heartbreak over the spate of violence.
