On the evening of September 9, 2024, the life of 30-year-old Susana Reséndiz Mendoza was tragically cut short at the OYO Townhouse hotel on Beasley Road in Jackson, Mississippi. Responding to a call at approximately 9:45 p.m., police officers discovered her with fatal gunshot wounds and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jackson Police Department swiftly identified a primary suspect in the shooting: 34-year-old Reynaldo Reséndiz Mendoza. A murder warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest. Authorities have publicly stated that Reynaldo is considered to be armed and dangerous and have urged anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward. As of mid-December 2024, he had not been apprehended, and the investigation remains active.
In the wake of her death, a GoFundMe campaign was established to raise funds to repatriate Susana's body to her family in Mexico, as she had limited family in the United States. Her death was noted by local authorities as part of a disturbing increase in domestic violence-related homicides in the Jackson area. In the two weeks prior to her death, Jackson police had responded to two other fatal domestic violence incidents.
