On a late Tuesday night in Greenwood, Mississippi, the life of 26-year-old Demontra Lamarius Ewing was tragically cut short. On August 30, 2022, Ewing was found deceased in his home on Canary Cove, having suffered from fatal gunshot wounds. Another man, Demarius Bush, was also injured in the incident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect who was tragically close to both victims. Authorities identified 22-year-old Edward Bush Jr., the brother of the injured Demarius Bush and the cousin of Demontra Ewing, as the alleged shooter. Following the incident, Edward Bush Jr. fled the scene, prompting a search by law enforcement. He was later apprehended in Dallas County, Alabama.
After his capture, Edward Bush Jr. was extradited back to Leflore County, Mississippi, to face charges for the shooting. He was charged with one count of murder for the death of his cousin, Demontra Ewing, and one count of attempted murder for the injuries sustained by his brother, Demarius Bush. A judge denied bond, and he was held at the Leflore County Jail.
In a later turn of events, while out on bond for the murder of Ewing, Edward Bush Jr. was arrested again for allegedly stabbing his mother. He led deputies on a chase before being apprehended. He is expected to be held in custody until his trial date.
