In the summer of 1978, a tragedy unfolded in Oklahoma City that would leave a lasting scar on the community. On the evening of July 16th, Louis Franco Zacarias, a 43-year-old male, was working at the Sirloin Stockade restaurant. What began as a normal workday soon turned into a scene of unimaginable horror. The restaurant became the target of a brutal robbery that would ultimately claim the lives of six innocent people, including Zacarias.
The perpetrators, led by Roger Dale Stafford,
entered the establishment with the intent to rob it. However, the situation quickly escalated into a violent massacre. The employees and one customer were herded into the restaurant's freezer and systematically shot. Along with Louis Franco Zacarias, five other individuals lost their lives in the senseless act of violence. The victims included four of his co-workers and the 12-year-old son of the restaurant's manager.
The investigation that followed the horrific events at the Sirloin Stockade led to the identification of Roger Dale Stafford, his wife Verna, and his brother Harold as the primary suspects. It was determined that the motive for the killings was to eliminate any potential witnesses to the robbery. Stafford was eventually apprehended, tried, and convicted for his role in the murders. His heinous crimes resulted in a death sentence, and he was executed in 1995, bringing a close to a dark chapter in Oklahoma City's history, though the memory of the victims, including Louis Franco Zacarias, endures.
