In the early morning hours of May 20, 2016, the life of 30-year-old Mike Chau, an Asian American male, was tragically cut short in the courtyard of the Southern Oaks Apartments in southwest Oklahoma City. At approximately 5:30 a.m., the morning's quiet was shattered by a heated argument, followed by the sound of multiple gunshots. Friends would later discover Chau lying in the courtyard, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency services were called, and Chau was quickly transported to a
local hospital in an attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after 7 a.m. The sudden and violent nature of his death left the community in shock and his loved ones devastated. Those who knew him remembered him as a funny and very outgoing person who deeply loved his children and had a passion for rapping and making music.
Witnesses at the scene provided a description of a potential suspect to the Oklahoma City Police Department. They described a Black male wearing a hoodie and jeans, who was seen leaving the apartment complex in a dark red or burgundy four-door sedan from the 1980s, possibly a Cadillac or an Oldsmobile. This individual was seen leaving the area shortly after the gunshots were heard.
Despite the witness descriptions and the ongoing investigation by the Oklahoma City Police Department's Homicide tip-line, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Mike Chau. The suspect remains at large, and the case has grown cold over the years. The investigation into his death is still considered open, as authorities continue to seek information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person responsible for his death.
