In December of 1985, the life of Norman Alan Rehrig, a 30-year-old former star athlete, came to a violent and mysterious end. His body was discovered on December 11, 1985, in a secluded area near the Oklahoma City airport. Rehrig was found inside his Ford Bronco, having been shot in both the side and the head. The freezing weather made it difficult for investigators to determine the exact time of his death.
At the time he was found, Rehrig had been missing for four days.
Alan, who had been a standout basketball player at Edmond High School and Oklahoma State University, was living in Dallas and working for a mortgage company at the time of his death. He had recently separated from his wife, Sandra Bridewell Rehrig, in November of that year. On December 7, 1985, the day he disappeared, Rehrig had planned to meet Sandra at a storage unit. He never returned from that planned meeting. Friends and family were alerted to his death after his body was identified.
From the outset of the investigation, suspicion fell upon his estranged wife, Sandra Bridewell. Though she has remained the only suspect in his murder, she has never been formally charged in connection with his death. The case grew cold over the years, leaving a lingering sense of injustice for Rehrig's family and friends. Sandra Bridewell, who also went by the name Camille Powers, later faced legal troubles for other matters, including fraud, but the investigation into Alan Rehrig's murder officially remains unsolved.
Bridewell reportedly collected over $220,000 in life insurance benefits following her husband's death. The circumstances surrounding Rehrig's final days and the lack of a resolution in his murder have left a lasting mark, turning his case into a long-standing mystery in Oklahoma.
