In the quiet city of Lawton, Oklahoma, a grim discovery was made on the morning of January 20, 2014. Inside his home, 49-year-old Uwe Rushing, a White male, was found shot to death. The tragedy was compounded by the discovery of his younger son, 13-year-old Stefan Rushing, who had also been fatally shot. The initial report to the police came from Uwe's older son, 18-year-old Thorsten Rushing, who claimed that two intruders had broken into their home and committed the heinous act before he
chased them away.
However, inconsistencies in Thorsten's story quickly raised suspicions among investigators. His description of the alleged assailants changed, and the evidence at the crime scene did not align with his account of the events. This led the police to focus their investigation on Thorsten himself. What unfolded was a story not of a random home invasion, but of a calculated plot. The investigation revealed that the motive may have been tied to a life insurance policy.
Within days, the truth began to surface with the arrests of Thorsten Rushing and four other teenagers. The group, including 19-year-olds Ethan Thompson and Cody Davis, and 18-year-old Timothy Delahoy, along with one juvenile, were all implicated in the planning and execution of the murders. The investigation concluded that the five teens were involved in various capacities, from planning and assisting before the act to providing help during and after the killings. It was reported that at least one of the accomplices was present with Thorsten at the time of the shootings.
The legal process that followed brought a measure of justice for the deaths of Uwe and Stefan Rushing. In June 2016, a jury found Thorsten Rushing guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
