In the early morning hours of October 6, 2019, the life of 26-year-old Tahiba Willis was tragically cut short in Lawton, Oklahoma. A loving and caring man known for his positive influence on those around him, Willis was a son, father, husband, and friend who was deeply cherished by his family. He was known to be a goofy and funny person who inspired many to better their lives and was considered the backbone of his family.
The fatal incident unfolded at a local bar situated near 17th and
Cache Road. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the location following reports of gunshots. Upon their arrival, they discovered Willis in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. An investigation later revealed that he had been shot in the chest and abdomen.
The Lawton Police Department identified 19-year-old Jamar Angel Jackson as the suspect in the shooting. Security footage from the bar captured Jackson at the scene on the night of the incident. According to witness statements, Jackson, who was known to carry firearms, was seen squatting down before standing up with a black handgun. He then allegedly fired multiple shots at Willis from a distance of 10 to 15 feet. Following the shooting, Jackson and another individual were seen fleeing the scene on foot.
In the wake of the investigation, an arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Jamar Angel Jackson. He was subsequently located and taken into custody by law enforcement. The untimely death of Tahiba Willis left his family and community grieving the loss of a man who was remembered for his kindness, even to his enemies, and his unwavering positivity.
