In the spring of 2015, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm at an Oklahoma City apartment complex, forever altering the lives of two cousins and leaving a family grappling with a loss that remains unexplained. On the evening of May 26th, police were dispatched to the Britton Courtyard Apartments on W. Britton Road in response to reports of shots fired.
There, they discovered 21-year-old Montyana Abrion Richardson and her cousin, Frederick Dion Richardson Jr., both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both cousins were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. While Frederick would ultimately survive his injuries, Montyana, affectionately known as Monty, succumbed to her wounds three days later on May 29th, 2015, just a week shy of her birthday. A graduate of Putnam North High School, Montyana was a member of a large family with six siblings. Her heritage was Native American.
In the years that have passed since the shooting, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain shrouded in mystery. Investigators have yet to publicly identify any suspects or make any arrests in connection with the homicide. The case has grown cold, leaving Montyana's loved ones without answers or a sense of justice. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with information regarding the murder of Montyana Richardson to come forward, hopeful that a crucial tip might one day help solve this lingering crime.
