On Monday, September 21, 2015, thirty-three-year-old Joshua Aaron Pyle was fatally struck along Elmcroft Avenue, just west of Indian Hill Boulevard in Pomona, California. Pyle, a White male, sustained catastrophic injuries when a motor vehicle was used against him, transforming a quiet residential neighborhood into the scene of a fatal crime. Emergency personnel responded to the street, but his traumatic injuries proved fatal, and he died that day.

The location of the incident sits in north Pomona, a community composed primarily of mid-century single-family homes lined along wide suburban streets just south of the border with the adjacent college community of Claremont and north of the Interstate 10 corridor. The Pomona Police Department initiated an investigation into the fatal encounter, treating the vehicular impact not as an ordinary traffic accident, but as a deliberate homicide.

Following the initial emergency response, investigators worked to piece together the events leading up to the impact. Detectives surveyed the roadway along Elmcroft Avenue for physical evidence, including skid marks, vehicular debris, and any physical impressions that could help determine the speed, make, model, and movements of the vehicle involved. Investigators also canvassed the surrounding neighborhood, seeking surveillance video from nearby homeowners and questioning potential witnesses who might have seen or heard the collision or observed vehicles fleeing the area toward Indian Hill Boulevard.

Despite the efforts of the Pomona Police Department and county coroner investigators, very little information regarding a motive or the events preceding the collision was made public. Official records from local law enforcement and community homicide logs cataloged the death as a vehicular homicide, marking Joshua Aaron Pyle as Pomona's ninth homicide victim of 2015. That year, the city recorded eleven homicides, reflecting ongoing violent crime challenges faced by investigators and residents alike across the eastern Los Angeles County municipality.

In the years following his death, the investigation reached a standstill. No suspect descriptions or vehicle details were ever publicly linked to an arrest, and no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the fatal incident. With the vehicle and its driver disappearing into the surrounding roadways, the circumstances that brought Joshua Aaron Pyle to Elmcroft Avenue and the identity of the person behind the wheel have remained unanswered questions.

More than a decade later, the killing of Joshua Aaron Pyle remains classified as an unsolved homicide. The Pomona Police Department continues to urge anyone who was in the vicinity of Elmcroft Avenue and Indian Hill Boulevard on September 21, 2015, or anyone who holds information about the driver or the vehicle involved, to contact their detective bureau or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
