In a tragic turn of events on June 14, 2016, 26-year-old Markey Goff, a male resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was found deceased in an SUV at Chamberlain Park. He and his friend, Meshawna Jones, had been shot to death. The discovery was made after a jogger was alerted by a young child on the playground, who led them to the vehicle where the bodies were located.
Inside the SUV with Goff and Jones was an unharmed 1-year-old boy.
The investigation into the double homicide led Tulsa police to identify Jacky Cardale Mayfield as the primary suspect. Mayfield, who was 27 at the time, was subsequently arrested and faced two counts of first-degree murder, in addition to charges for possession of a firearm and a stolen vehicle. The prosecution sought the death penalty for Mayfield, underscoring the brutal nature of the crime that had left a lasting impact on the Tulsa community.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of a second individual, Rebecca Williams. Williams was implicated in the case and later pleaded guilty to being an accessory to the double murder. She admitted to assisting Mayfield in hiding evidence after the shooting and received a 10-year prison sentence for her role.
