In the early morning hours of November 30, 2016, a drug transaction in Del City, Oklahoma, turned deadly, ending the life of 20-year-old Quaylis Demaine Murphy, a Black/African American male from Oklahoma City. The fatal encounter unfolded around 12:45 a.m. in the 3200 block of Delmar Road when Murphy and another man, Bobby Gene Ollerdisse, were flagged down by an unknown individual seeking to purchase marijuana.
An argument erupted during the course of the transaction, escalating
quickly and violently. Both Quaylis Murphy and the unidentified buyer drew firearms and exchanged gunfire. Murphy was struck by multiple bullets during the shootout and was pronounced dead at the scene. The state medical examiner later confirmed that his death was a homicide.
Bobby Gene Ollerdisse was also wounded in the exchange, sustaining injuries to his thigh and wrist, but he survived the incident. In a subsequent development, prosecutors charged Ollerdisse with first-degree murder in connection with Murphy's death. The legal grounds for the charge were based on his involvement in the felony distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, which ultimately led to the fatal shooting.
Despite the charges brought against Ollerdisse, the individual who directly engaged in the gunfight with Murphy and fired the fatal shots has never been identified or apprehended. The case remains open, with law enforcement continuing to seek information that might lead to the arrest of the unknown suspect.
