In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 5, 2017, a sense of tragedy befell a north Tulsa neighborhood. Byron Roland, a 27-year-old Black/African American male, was visiting a friend's house when his life was abruptly cut short. As he approached the residence, an unknown assailant, who had been lying in wait in the bushes across the street, opened fire. Roland was struck by the gunfire in what police would later describe as an ambush-style attack.
