On New Year's Day 2018, the life of 23-year-old Bryan Sweet was tragically cut short in Spencer, Oklahoma. A hardworking and beloved department manager at a local Walmart, he was discovered by his family in his car outside a residence on NE 36th Street around 8:35 a.m. The vehicle was still running, and it was soon apparent that he had been shot multiple times.
The night before, the family had been celebrating New Year's Eve.
Gunfire had been heard around 6 a.m., but in the festive atmosphere, it was initially dismissed. It was only later that morning that the horrifying discovery was made. Bryan, a Black/African American male known for his dedication to his job and his quiet, family-focused life, was found slumped over the wheel. Evidence at the scene indicated that he had been shot 12 times.
Investigators believe he may have been followed home from his late-night shift at the Walmart in Choctaw. His family remembers him as a kind-hearted young man who kept to himself and was not involved in any criminal activity, making his violent death all the more shocking and senseless to them.
Despite the efforts of the Oklahoma City Police Department and the profound grief of his family and friends, no arrests have been made in connection with Bryan Sweet's murder. The case remains unsolved, leaving his loved ones to grapple with the unanswered questions surrounding who would have targeted him and why. His family continues to hold out hope for justice, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for his death.
