In the early hours of July 23, 2019, a dispute in a north Tulsa convenience store parking lot tragically cut short the life of 47-year-old Soconda Boyd. Known affectionately as 'Candy,' Soconda was a mother who friends said was actively trying to turn her life around. That night, however, she became the victim of a fatal shooting that would later be ruled a homicide by the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The incident unfolded just after midnight at Naifeh's Food Mart,
located near Mohawk and MLK Boulevard. Tulsa Police responded to a call about a shooting and, upon arrival, discovered Soconda Boyd with a gunshot wound to the neck. She was rushed to St. John Medical Center, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead. The investigation into her death quickly pointed to a suspect, a woman with whom there had been an ongoing feud.
Authorities identified 41-year-old Diamanta Hera Tibbs as the primary suspect in the shooting. According to court documents and investigators, the tragic event was preceded by an incident involving one of Tibbs' children and Boyd at the same convenience store late the previous night. It is believed that Tibbs returned to the store in the early morning hours of July 23rd and shot Boyd. On July 25, 2019, a warrant was issued for Tibbs' arrest on the charge of first-degree murder.
Following a manhunt that lasted for several months, Diamantia Tibbs was apprehended. Her case gained further attention when it was featured on the television show 'The First 48.' Prosecutors alleged that the shooting was the culmination of an ongoing feud between multiple women.
