In the early morning hours of August 16, 2019, a large fight broke out in the 400 block of Vail Circle in Oklahoma City, near the Broadway Extension and Hefner Road. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered the body of 27-year-old Robert Wilkins in the front yard of a residence. An African American male, Wilkins had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The altercation that led to Wilkins's death was a chaotic scene involving multiple individuals and resulted in a triple shooting.
In addition to Wilkins, two other men were wounded. One was found with gunshot injuries in a neighbor's backyard, while the third sought treatment at a local hospital.
Witnesses at the scene identified 26-year-old Sadre Tobias Smith as the individual who fired a weapon at Wilkins during the fight. Smith was reportedly seen fleeing the area in his vehicle immediately after the shooting. Based on witness testimony and ballistic evidence found at the scene, which included casings from a. 40 caliber handgun Smith was known to possess, authorities issued an arrest warrant for him on a complaint of first-degree murder. The case against Smith proceeded as he faced charges related to the fatal shooting.
