In the quiet city of Norman, Oklahoma, a tragic event unfolded on October 7, 2020, ending the life of 56-year-old David Wilhelm. Authorities were called to a residence in the 2100 block of Bates Way around 3:12 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the bodies of two men in the backyard.
The Norman Police Department's investigation revealed the incident to be an apparent murder-suicide.
The second man was identified as 58-year-old Byron Lee Carpenter. Investigators determined that Carpenter had shot Wilhelm before turning the weapon on himself. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
According to police, the investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division concluded that there were no other individuals involved in the tragic event. Authorities confirmed that no outstanding suspects were being sought in connection with the deaths. The case was subsequently closed.
