In the late hours of a Friday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a house party that was meant to be a scene of enjoyment turned into one of tragedy. It was November 20, 2020, when 19-year-old Desmond Clayton attended a gathering at a home in the 1300 block of N. Cheyenne. The residence, which had been rented through Airbnb, was filled with approximately 25 people when the night took a violent turn.
Amidst the social gathering, gunfire erupted, and Desmond Clayton was struck multiple times.
Emergency services were called to the chaotic scene around 10 p.m. First responders found the young man gravely wounded and immediately transported him to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Desmond Clayton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the days that followed the fatal shooting, the Tulsa Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to a suspect, Coryeion Vonquavious. On the Tuesday following the incident, officers located and arrested Vonquavious at a residence in north Tulsa. He was taken into custody and subsequently faced a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Desmond Clayton. In the wake of the violence, Airbnb released a statement condemning the act and confirmed that they had banned the guest who booked the rental from their platform, reiterating their strict policy against house parties.
