In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of 21-year-old Jared Dick was tragically cut short. On October 20, 2015, police were called to a home in the 3500 block of East King Street, near Harvard and Independence, around 2:10 a.m. There, they found Jared Dick on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the injury proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation into the shooting was
fraught with challenges for detectives. Many of the potential witnesses at the scene were reportedly under the influence of narcotics, providing conflicting accounts of the events that transpired. Despite these difficulties, investigators were able to piece together enough information to identify two suspects. The investigation led them to 18-year-old Jerald Ross and 21-year-old Daulton Day.
Evidence gathered at the scene indicated that both Ross and Day had fired weapons, as two different types of shell casings were recovered. Following their arrests, both men were initially charged with first-degree murder. Jerald Ross later entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter. Daulton Day, however, was bound for trial on the original charge of first-degree murder. The motive for the shooting remained unclear to investigators as they continued to delve into the circumstances surrounding Jared Dick's untimely death, which marked the city's 46th homicide of the year.
