In the summer of 2022, a violent encounter in Tulsa, Oklahoma, set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to a man losing his life months later. Parrish Fitzgerald Wallace, a 58-year-old Black male, was shot multiple times in June near Highway 66 and West 17th Street. The man accused of pulling the trigger was 56-year-old Terrence Mason, who was promptly arrested at the scene.
Initially, Mason faced a series of charges related to the incident, including shooting with
intent to kill, possession of a firearm, assault and battery of a medical provider, and obstructing a police officer. For months, Wallace fought to recover from the severe injuries he sustained in the shooting. Despite the passage of time, the complications from the gunshot wounds proved to be insurmountable. On January 2, 2023, Parrish Wallace succumbed to his injuries.
His death prompted a significant shift in the legal case. In March 2023, the medical examiner's office officially ruled Wallace's death a homicide. This critical determination led the Tulsa Police Department to collaborate with the District Attorney's office to amend the charges against Terrence Mason to reflect the fatal outcome of his alleged actions. Wallace's passing was recorded as the tenth homicide in the city of Tulsa for that year.
