In the winter of 2021, the community of Oklahoma City was shaken by the city's first homicide of the year. On the cold night of January 9th, a 52-year-old Black/African American woman named Anita Kay Walker, known to her loved ones as 'Nita Kay,' was found deceased in front of her home. The grim discovery was made shortly before midnight near N.E. 19th and Page Avenue after officers responded to a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found Anita with a fatal gunshot wound.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving her family and friends in a state of shock and grief.
Well-known and loved in her northeast community, Anita was described as a person with a vibrant and comedic personality who never met a stranger. She was a dedicated caregiver and worked for her parents' family business, Walker's Used Tires, as well as at Poe Bouyz House Restaurant. Her sudden and violent death was a significant loss to those who knew her. Her life was remembered at a funeral service held at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, and she was laid to rest at Trice Hill Cemetery.
The investigation into her tragic death began immediately, with the Oklahoma City Police Department urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Homicide Tip Line. Despite their efforts and the pleas from her community for justice, the case has remained unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The search for answers and for those responsible for the death of Anita Kay Walker continues.
